چکیده

In a geometric graph, G, the stretch factor between two vertices, u and w, is the ratio between the Euclidean length of the shortest path from u to w in G and the Euclidean distance between u and w. The average stretch factor of G is the average stretch factor taken over all pairs of vertices in G. We show that for any set, V , of n points in Rd , there exists a geometric graph with vertex set V , that has O(n) edges, and that has average stretch factor 1 + on(1). More precisely, the average stretch factor of this graph is 1 +O((logn/n)1/(2d+1)). We complement this upper-bound with a lower bound: There exist n point sets in R2 for which any graph with O(n) edges has average stretch factor 1 + Ω(1/ √ n). Bounds of this type are not possible for the more commonly studied worst-case stretch factor. In particular, there exists point sets, V , such that any graph with worst-case stretch factor 1 + on(1) has a superlinear number of edges. ar X iv :1 30 5. 41 70 v1 [ cs .C G ] 1 7 M ay 2 01 3

Low-Stretch Spanning Tree on Benchmark Circuits

We show the testing results of Kruskal, Prim-Dijkstra for finding a low-stretch spanning tree for both unweighted graphs and weighted graphs transformed from benchmark circuits [1]. On unweighted graph, our implementation can get an average stretch of about 7 for all benchmark circuits. Kruskal’s algorithm gives good edge selection for finding short stretch edges, but does not work well for oth...

Whither Mental Health Policy-Where Does It Come from and Does It Go Anywhere Useful?; Comment on “Cross-National Diffusion of Mental Health Policy”

Factors influencing cross-national diffusion of mental health policy are important to understand but complex to research. This commentary discusses Shen’s research study on cross-national diffusion of mental health policy; examines the extent to which the three questions researched by Shen (whether countries are more likely to have a mental health policy (a) the earlier a country becomes a memb...

Compact Routing for Flat Networks

In [4], Cowen presented a universal compact routing algorithm with a stretch factor of three and a table-size of O(n2/3 log4/3 n), based on a simple and practical model. (The table-size is later improved to O( √ n log3 n) [20].) This stretch factor of three matches a general lower bound given in [9] and also matches a much tighter lower bound if we restrict the model to the Cowen’s [12]. Thus i...

The Stretch Factor of Hexagon-Delaunay Triangulations

The problem of computing the exact stretch factor (i.e., the tight bound on the worst case stretch factor) of a Delaunay triangulation has been open for more than three decades. Over the years, a series of upper and lower bounds on the exact stretch factor have been obtained but the gap between them is still large. An alternative approach to solving the problem is to develop techniques for comp...

On the effect of low-quality node observation on learning over incremental adaptive networks

In this paper, we study the impact of low-quality node on the performance of incremental least mean square (ILMS) adaptive networks. Adaptive networks involve many nodes with adaptation and learning capabilities. Low-quality mode in the performance of a node in a practical sensor network is modeled by the observation of pure noise (its observation noise) that leads to an unreliable measurement....
